African Drumming Workshop
NEW! The African drums are here! Come out and join the fun - no musical experience is needed. Our instructor, Sonny Bryant, will be giving a workshop demonstrating West African drums. Find out how to get the three basic sounds from the Djembe drum: the Bass, Tone and Slap. Discover other drums such as The Dunn Dunn, Samba, Kekeni, Kponlogo and the Talking drums. Help build right and left hand coordination, correct posture, hearing more than one rhythm at a time. He'll help you begin to hear music the way the African hears it. This workshop will end with a short performance where everyone gets a chance to play as an ensemble. African drums will be provided for each person. . . . .
SONNY BRYANT has traveled throughout the country teaching West African drumming to children, music educators and adults. He teaches drums in a cultural context, which includes African storytelling, history, culture, tribal traditions and more.
